Deepening Empathy: An Introduction to Compassionate Communication
Location: Crazy Wisdom Bookstore and Tearoom
Speaker: Angela Watrous
Free (pre-register at Co-op)
We long to connect with the people in our lives and yet all too often we find ourselves struggling with chronic misunderstandings, conflict, and unsatisfying patterns of avoidance or emotional distance. Through engaging large-group discussion and small-group practice, you’ll learn how to apply the fundamentals of Compassionate Communication, based on the principles of Nonviolent Communication as envisioned by Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D. The approach offers a practical and warm way to tune in to each person’s feelings, identify the universal human needs that underlie those feelings, and connect to those feelings and needs with empathy by making clear and actionable requests of others.
Learn to speak a deeper and more intimate truth, trading in life-limiting judgments for understanding, collaboration and harmony.
Angela Watrous is the author of five nonfiction books about relationships and communication, and has been studying Compassionate/Nonviolent Communication for the past six years.
